As I was making various plates, I wanted to include one that supported my creativity, especially since my creativity fuels the process of doing what I do. So this plate is the result of that thought process.
I know that it looks like it’s either navy blue or black, depending on where in the photo you’re looking, yet it is really a rich dark purple. That dark background really makes the copper mesh dragonfly stand out wonderfully.
The top layer of glass is another of the collage glass sheets, made up of clear with blue and purple stringers and frit mixed in. I used a scrap of opalescent glass in pinks, reds and purples for the plaque that says Creativity.
For those not familiar with glass terms, “frit” is the term for shards or powdered glass and “stringer” is the term for thin rods or strings of glass. The manufacturer, Bullseye Glass, pours clear glass on a mixing table, tosses on a handful of frit and lays the stringers on the surface, then pushes the mass of glass through the rollers.
It is amazing to watch the various types of glasses being mixed in their workshop! I’m heading to Portland in a few weeks and I plan to stop by to watch…
I hope that you’re doing something fun, too!
