I hope that everyone had a great New Year’s Day. Speaking of holidays, here is one last piece of holiday fused glass: my poinsettia bowl. It measures 13.5 inches in diameter and 1.75″ deep. This piece was one of my favorite bits of holiday glass this year, even though it wasn’t finished until after Christmas, so it’s a shame that I didn’t have the opportunity to post it when I posted about the other holiday goodies I shared earlier.
The fusible poinsettias for this piece of holiday fused glass came from Delphi, a glass supplier. Delphi only has them in stock during the holiday season, so if you like them, you’ll have to wait until late summer or early fall before they stock them again. Each poinsettia kit comes with five red petals, two green leaves, and a small packet of opaque yellow frit for the center.
I will admit that working with pre-cut glass is much easier than having to cut the small pieces by hand. On the other hand, it isn’t nearly as artistic, since each of the fused glass embellishments looks exactly the same. I did try to vary each one slightly by flipping some the glass over to change the way the leaves were pointing so that they weren’t completely identical, and I do think that helped a bit.
So, that’s the last of the holidays. The tree is down, the lights have been taken down or turned off until next year, and the decorations are all packed away in the storage closet in the garage. Life is getting back to normal after the frantic pace of the holiday season. I really enjoy the rhythms of the seasons and now it’s finally time for the slowness of winter, especially after the foot and a half of snow (incredibly rare for us) that fell on New Year’s Day here in Sedona, Arizona.
