The pink Transform plate that I blogged about not long ago was just featured in an Etsy Treasury for Mother's Day. Just in case you're wondering, Etsy is a collection of stores - sort of like Ebay, but it's not an auction site - specifically for artists to showcase their creations. Anyone who is a member - buyers or sellers - can put together a treasury of favorite items, items relating to a certain theme, items relating to a certain holiday, … [Read more...]
New intention plates

Several new plates came out of the kiln over the last month or so and I haven't taken the time to blog about them. This one was the most different of the recent ones that I made. One of the biggest noticeable differences is that this intention plate was made with opaque pink glass on the bottom. I usually use transparent glass for the bottom layer, but I really like the way that this plate turned out, so I'll probably be using more opaques … [Read more...]

Ghostly!

Yes, I know that Halloween is over, but the title still seemed very appropriate for this particular intention plate. This plate was another unexpected, but very cool, result from my experiments with embellishments. I have been experimenting with various metallic embellishments - coins, copper and brass mesh, metal buttons, etc. - to find out which work well with glass and which do not. The embellishment for this plate was cut from a sheet of … [Read more...]
Unintentional Christmas bowl!

Since I was using a lot of dark red in this bowl, I added a lot of clear to keep the colors from getting too muddy. Some of the clear that I used was confetti glass with bits of yellow and shades of green from one piece of scrap, and yellow, orange, and red from another piece of scrap. I also used a bit of clear and black wispy glass, which added the darker ripples to the piece. Maybe it's the holidays fast approaching, but to me, the bowl … [Read more...]
Spirituality Embodied

This intention plate turned out even better than I had hoped. I was going for a very ethereal looking background to go with the Spirituality intention for the plate. The photo doesn't do the plate justice, I'm afraid, although you do get the general idea. This is one plate that you really have to see in person to appreciate. The bottom layer of glass is an iridescent blue, which really adds shimmer to the plate when it catches the light just … [Read more...]
You never know what you’re going to get…

This bowl is yet another demonstration of you never know what you're going to get when using the melt pot technique. I do like the way it turned out, even though it wasn't what I had planned. I was going for more color variation with major stripes of blue and yellow in addition to the green. Instead, the way the melt flowed out of the pot, it turned out predominantly green with some minor accent stripes in blue, yellow and black. In the side … [Read more...]
Home decor can be stylish!

I've made a few little pieces for around my home over the last year and I thought I'd take an opportunity to show this one off. It's a spoon rest for the kitchen stove and I added dichroic accents in two spots. I think that the dichroic glass accents add a lot of pop to the piece! You can click on the photos below to take a better look at them. I've been using it for a while now and I have to admit that it's my favorite that I've ever … [Read more...]
Not Always Fun and Games

Just in case you think that life in the studio is all fun and games and that every piece comes out of the kiln in perfect shape, let me set things straight. The first picture shows one of my intention plates that didn't turn out the first time. I used a vine motif made from copper wire in this piece, and it turned out that the copper wire was too thick. It basically cut the piece in half. The copper leaves, while pretty, were too large and thick … [Read more...]
Supporting Creativity

As I was making various plates, I wanted to include one that supported my creativity, especially since my creativity fuels the process of doing what I do. So this plate is the result of that thought process. I know that it looks like it's either navy blue or black, depending on where in the photo you're looking, yet it is really a rich dark purple. That dark background really makes the copper mesh dragonfly stand out wonderfully. The top … [Read more...]
